Data Recovery Services

Was your computer flooded but you need the data files stored on its hard drive?  There is a good chance that the data is recoverable.  Your situation will more than likely fall into one of two scenarios as described below.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO POWER UP YOUR COMPUTER!
Doing so may damage an otherwise functional hard drive so that the only option for data recovery is the second scenario below.

SCENARIO #1 - THE HARD DRIVE IS STILL FUNCTIONAL:

If your computer was flooded, it is more than likely ruined.  But, it is possible that your hard drive is still functional - at least for a time.  You should not attempt to power up your computer, even after it dries.  As we all know, water and electronics do not mix well.  There are many places inside your computer that will hold water.  If you power up the computer with this water still present, further damage will occur.  However, it is not just the water that is the problem.  The residue left behind after the water dries can also conduct electricity and cause damage.  The hard drive needs to be removed, cleaned, thoroughly dried, and then placed in another working computer as a slave drive.  Then, if the hard drive is still operational, the data files should be copied from the drive.  We can do this for you at a reasonable cost, usually under $200.

SCENARIO #2 - THE HARD DRIVE IS NOT FUNCTIONAL:

Even if the above process determines that the hard drive is no longer functional, the data usually can still be recovered.  Let us explain.  The platters that actually contain the stored data files are hermetically sealed in the hard drive.  The flood water may have damaged the external printed circuit boards of the hard drive, but usually the sealed components are undamaged.  However, recovery now becomes much more difficult as it requires a clean room and specialized equipment.  The cost for this service depends on how extensive the damage, how difficult it is to recover the data, and how much data needs recovering.  Typically, the cost for this service is in the range of $595 to $1500.

Contact us today to arrange for us to evaluate your drive.  We will attempt to recover your data files using the first scenario.  If this is unsuccessful, the drive will then be shipped to our clean room facility.  The facility will examine the drive to determine the cost to recover your critical data files.  We will notify you of the cost and ask how you want us to proceed.  If you agree to the cost, we will proceed.  Your data files will be provided on CDs, DVDs, or another hard drive*.  If you decline to continue further, you are billed only for the scenario #1 services, plus the shipping expenses.

* There is an additional cost for the new hard drive if you desire the recovered data files be written to a hard drive.
